Simply put, search engine optimization is the process by which a website is given its best possible chance to be found and displayed on Page One of organic results by the major search engines (Google, Yahoo!, and Bing).

Because none of the three aforementioned companies has ever entirely revealed every component of the algorithms they use to locate and return websites, the process of search engine optimization is part science and part art.
